20.05 k | Hack Olympics
20.33 k | Sword Fighting
35.14 k |
Another picture of the sport whose name I've forgotten. | Another view of the Hack Olympics. | Lessons were also available in other types of 'hacking' Here are some people learning a little about 15th Century Swordfighting |
HackerJeopardy
24.37 k | The spaceship Fairy Dust
20.59 k | HackerJeopardy
23.85 k |
Here's the contestants with the MC. It's worth noting that he made some of the questions (especially in the perlvars category) so hard *he* couldn't answer them. That was especially funny. | In Fairy Dust We Trust! | Here's the game screen. Logix pretty much dominated the final game. Alan didn't do too badly though. |
The Data-Klo (aka Data-Toilet)
53.00 k | The Info Desk
16.54 k | Hack Olympics
31.96 k |
These are hollowed out Port-a-Potties that housed the network and phone equiptment for the campers to hook into. Look at all the cables. | This was my home for most of the camp. I worked here at the Info Desk, giving out info, making signs for the camp, and helping people find places they were trying to get to. | Another game show type event. This time the contestants not only answered questions, but competed in physical activities, like this one: reassembling a keyboard. Others included Mouse Curling and Hard Drive throwing. |
Hacker Jeopardy
26.29 k | View of the Camp
10.65 k | Plasma Balls
7.00 k |
Here's a lovely young lady from the OpenBSD group handing out prizes. Alan got Second place!!! | Here is a view of the camp taken from near the starship Fairy Dust. | There were dozens of plasma balls arranged around the Fairy Dust. It was beautiful at night. |
The HackCenter
35.64 k | The CERT area
29.54 k | View of the Food Court
14.33 k |
This is the HackCenter, the heart of the camp, where many people hooked up their computers. This is also where I was most of the camp, at the info desk. | The area for the CERT (Chaos Emergency Response Team) who did a GREAT job taking care of everyone who fell ill or was hurt at the camp. THEY were the true Angels of camp. (The sign on the grey tent says M*A*S*H) | Here's the food court, where you could get many different kinds of food. The Thai food was to DIE for. I don't know that I'll ever quite be able to forget it. I wish I'd eaten more while I had the chance. |
Plasma Balls
7.64 k | Fire Hose Showers
12.38 k | The HackCenter
23.62 k |
Here I tried to get a picture of the field of plasma balls. It wasn't easy, because the area kept filling up with fog from the laser show. ;-) | Because of the record high temperatures, it was important for everyone to keep cool. The Fire Department of the CERT team came out a few times on Saturday and used the Fire Truck water to cool people off. | Another view of the HackCenter (possibly recognizable faces deliberately blurred) |
Light Tree
25.88 k | Sunset
21.11 k | Angel Tent 2
21.86 k |
There were BEAUTIFUL light displays on the trees. It was awe inspiring to see machine and nature so beautifully harmonized. This was one of the static ones that I managed to get a picture of. If anyone has a video of the honeycomb light show that was on the tree by the lake, please e-mail me and let me know. | The sun sets on the camp. | Another view of the Angel Tent. If you look very closely, you can see a few Archangels hanging around outside the tent. |
The spaceship Fairy Dust
26.17 k | Night Lights
5.25 k | Plasma Balls
6.59 k |
Notice the plasma balls around it. There are night pictures of those here too. It was a really cool field of plasma balls at night. -- In Fairy Dust we Trust! | The night was always bright with multicolored lights. Very cool. | Ok, I really liked these pictures, so here's yet another picture of the plasma balls around the Fairy Dust. |

I'm sorry, I've forgotten the name of the sport being played here. It's something like Joggel or something. (e-mail me if you know....) | Apparently someone didn't like windows. Or at least didn't like windows 95 | A small version of the Blinken Lights. It didn't come out so well on my camera.... |
Blinken Area
19.85 k | Watermelon (and HonkHase)
21.81 k | View of the 'Angel Tent' also called Heaven
11.36 k |
Another small blinkenlights photo. This one came out a little better... | Here's the spaceship VodkaDust. More or less. The gentleman grinning in the photo is our SecurityAngel, HonkHase. He saved me more than once from situations I didn't want to be in. Thanks HonkHase!!!! | This is the tent where the Chaos-Angels (the volunteers for the camp) hung out and relaxed when they weren't working. |
